I-495 Exit to I-66 To Close September 30th
I-495 North left exit to I-66 West to close permanently on or about September 30th
As part of the Capital Beltway HOT Lanes Project, the I-66/I-495 interchange is being rebuilt to deliver significant benefits to drivers traveling through this major interchange. Ten new bridges are being built at the I-66 interchange to accommodate the four new HOT Lanes on the Beltway and provide smoother connectivity between these two major highways.
New Traffic Pattern - September 30th
On or around September 30, I-495 north traffic will be shifted to the new outer lanes from Lee Highway to I-66. Drivers exiting I-495 north (inner loop) onto I-66 west will have an upgraded right exit to make this movement. The right exit will provide access to both east and westbound I-66 with two ramps lanes traveling to I-66 west. The right exit will reduce traffic weaving prior to the old left exit and allow motorists to more smoothly move through this area.
The current left exit to I-66 west will be permanently closed to regular traffic. The exit will become part of the future HOT Lanes ramp, providing a seamless connection from the HOT Lanes to the HOV lanes on I-66.
